Suggested Resources

When you work with us, you’ll work with many of the following resources & websites. The following are a few of the many networking sites that we’ll discuss with you during your Social Networking strategy meeting. You owe it to your business to check out this shortlist of recommended resources, though depending on your business, we may suggest others that would be a better fit for you. For now these should get you going:

Networking Sites

twitter

Social networking and microblogging service for  instant messaging, posting thoughts or marketing quips, accessible by phone or through its own web interface. We however suggest you use a Twitter aggregator, such as Tweetdeck, mentioned below.

linkedin

LinkedIn is one of the primary business social networks – you should have both a personal page as well as a page for your business. Techniques such as answering colleague’s questions on items in your range of expertise strengthens and extends your network and is a valid tactic to advertise without advertising.

meetup

Meetup hosts user-created meetings on a variety of topics, from Apple Farmers local #120 to Jazz Lovers, Yoga Practitioners, Business Networking and everything in-between. Savvy business users go to meetings of interest to their desired clientele, then create their own meetups to satisfy both consumer need and their own marketing goals.

facebook

Facebook is a social networking profile site that connects people with friends and others who have similar interests. The more friends your friends are connected to, the more you are able to leverage into your own network through invitations. As with LinkedIn, have a personal and a business page.

yelp

Yelp started as a review and recommendation service and has morphed into a combination of Twitter crossed with Meetup. Looking for a doctor? Check the recommends in your area. A good place to eat in a town you don’t know well? Ditto. Ask questions & get or give answers, chat in forums and make friends on this service.  Businesses can take control of their own recommendation page and add resources, pictures, comments etc.  To a certain extent, Yelp also allows you to manage negative reviews and is a great asset to any business, either local or virtual.

Tools & Extras

tweetdeck

Tweetdeck makes you a web commando unit with an interface that puts all Twitters you’re following, all of your direct messages and places you’re mentioned across the Twitterverse (yes, that’s a word) front and center. Recommended over Twitter’s own slow and clunky interface. Has built-in support for YFrog and Twitpic photo sharing services, 12 Second video sharing site and a variety of URL shortening services.

youtube
You can use YouTube to host videos from your grandson’s first tooth to product placement, customer relationship helpers and other business uses. In addition to amateur user videos, YouTube hosts network television, trailers, clips and professional content.

craigslist

Craigslist started in the San Francisco Bay Area and has generalized outward across the United States, having “lists” in most large metro areas. Craigslist offers local forums, classifieds,  job  post and job search, housing, for sale, personals, services, local community, and events. Great venue for announcing classes and new products.
