Alternative 10 Commandments

From friend Lisa Wilder’s blog comes this great though anonymous “Alternative 10 Commandments”

Ten Other Commandments To Live By

1.  You shall not worry, for worry is the most unproductive of all human activities.

2.  You shall not be fearful, for most of the things we fear never come to pass.

3.  You shall not carry grudges, for they are the heaviest of all life’s burdens.

4.  You shall face each problem as it comes. You can only handle one at a time anyway.

5.  You shall not take problems to bed with you, for they make very poor bedfellows.

6.  You shall not borrow other people’s problems. They can better care for them than you.

7.  You shall not try to relive yesterday for good or ill, it is forever gone. Concentrate on what is happening    in your life and be happy now.

8.  You shall be a good listener, for only when you listen do you hear ideas different from your own.

9.  You shall not become bogged down by frustration, for 90% of it is rooted in self-pity and will only interfere with positive action.

10. You shall count your blessings, never overlooking the small ones, for a lot of small blessings add up to a big one.

Blessings & Lessons From Smart Animals

bambi-thumperFriendship and love, even across species. This is what it looks like. Check your heart when you look at this picture…that’s what it feels like. (see below for more)

It always amazes me when I meet people who won’t cosy up to another human being, who won’t accept help, whose stiff-necked pride depends on being “completely, totally independent”.  I used to see that a lot back when I was a social worker. And even today, in some who would consider it beneath them to accept a helping hand, or others who won’t reach out to their networks when they really need to.

Now I enjoy my financial independence, being an independent thinker and things like that, but will I accept a hug, a friendly nuzzle or a helping hand?  Oh, you betcha! And revel in the close-knit communities I enjoy being part of.

Come on, folks. It’s the holidays. If you really need to, and even if you don’t – reach out, please. You’ll be doing someone else the immense favor of allowing them the extreme blessing of giving, and yourself the equal blessing of receiving.  No perps, no victims – it’s an equal exchange. Think about it.

Ask  your mom or maiden aunt for a hug. Get your dad to help you check your tires or change a lightbulb. Sincerely ask a colleague’s opinion on your latest product or business thought. ‘Tis the season of giving, so give that blessing to others.

In that, we can all stand to learn a thing or two from our animal friends. The first thing we can all do with more of that this pair of buddies has down: friendship and love – even across different species. Thanks to Certified Energy Coach Carol Sanderell for sending this beautiful photo essay and heartwarming story of the fawn Finchen and her wild rabbit companion seen above.

The full essay (in  both German and English) with loads of pictures can be found here: http://www.tanja-askani.de/ Talk about magic, communication and inspiration! If you’re a big softie like me, you’ll cry tears of joy. Check out her other photos of interspecies communication.  Warm your cockles for darn sure.

Towards A Magical Formulary

Sunday, October 26th, 2008 by Maryam Webster

What is this thing we call Consciousness?

What is being continually Aware?

What is possible with expansiveness of Presence?

What is:

out of space

out of time

no-dimensional

all-resourceful?

What is the nature of that with no limits?

Uncreate, dissolve and release what binds

Create, empower and amplify what expands

The rose opens, expansiveness beckons

Step within.

This is the essence,

of that we call ETHOS

In preparation for the courses in practical-magic-for-all I’m developing, it’s been important to get the most complex of concepts reduced to the commonest of memes.

“Reducto!” the mage shouts and the dragon shrinks into a gecko.

The above is an attempt to reduce what may seem to be the compex concept of ETHOS into a compact meme, which in olden times might have been referred to as a spell, charm or incantation. These grammatic forms of learning through recitation were all ways of compressing an important amount of wisdom into the smallest most compact space possible for oral teaching – which is how learning was passed for centuries.

ETHOS is something that can and should be taught orally, by talking to people we know. Asking questions is the most powerful form of teaching, because it frees the student to come to their own conclusions, which is an essential part of stepping into Unlimted Self.

What energy, space and consciousness can you be, to share the question of ETHOS today?

Something to wonder about…

Thoughts on Genesis of A New Energy Transformation Tool

Thursday, July 31st, 2008 by Maryam Webster

Below is a post I made to a high-level email list of advanced energy coaches and therapists. It answered a colleague’s question regarding Emotional Freedom Technique:  "What is the intention of the tapping? To reduce SUDs, eliminate distress, or enhance mindfulness?"

If energy psychology technique creation isn’t your interest, the below might be a bit academic and potentially dull. There are some who read this blog who may identify with these thoughts however. If this isn’t you don’t despair, get on your unicycle and go in the direction of a vibrant "Yes!" to what pulls your heart in the Article Categories down on the left of this page.

There is something there calling to you, even now…

But back to  SUDS, distress and mindfulness.

Hello my friend, thank you for asking.

Intention is one of the main reasons I’ve found in my research, why certain methods don’t work well upon occasion, or don’t work 100% all of the time. (yes, even those ones many of us hold near and dear to our hearts).

What is our intention as practitioners? As petitioners at the gate of forever?

In not choosing, we choose. In choosing not to make intentions, we make intentions. I believe knowledge of some of the inner workings of the universe and how we affect it all the time by our thoughts, beliefs and intentions, is crucially important to knowing how to work any method.

Intention is a natural clockwise/counterclockwise conjugate spiral energy flow that as far as I know, runs much of our experience if not all of it.

Think of a Moebius strip with positive energy running down one surface and negative energy running up the opposite surface. You try to connect the two ends. Attraction/repulsion factors of the differing valences cause the strip to twist and bend into the familiar infinite loop. Bent back upon itself, the ends meeting where like attracts like, it is possible to fasten such a strip.

Such is consciousness, for it folds and bends back on itself as well, seeking the familiar, repulsed by the unfamiliar. We often get lost in those folds and end up snoozing down at the bottom of one of those bends in the strip of consciousness. That’s how routines get started and encoded into imperatives. Mindfulness and intention are sovereign remedies, plus the knowledge that we are truly, without Limits. And can have an infinite variety of things that we desire, including elevated levels of Presence, abundance and joy.

This all may be a crock of manure and not true of course but…it appears to be working for me…I’ll bet it works the same way for a whole lot of us here.    ;-)

And Mindfulness = Presence = The Ultimate Resource State from which all magical things might be accomplished. And become quite mundane.

That being said, as myself and a small but devoted band of colleagues developing the new ETHOS Method, (about which you’ll hear in the August 18th ACEP teleclass <hint: I’m giving the class>) have found that the Ultimate Resource State is what I/we call the Unlimited Self. I pondered very deeply *why* certain personal development methods didn’t work well sometimes. One of the reasons that I found is that many of them come from the point of view of us needing to be fixed and of healing. Not that these aren’t perfectly valid occupations, but fixing and healing are like slapping a bandage on the problem and never getting to the real issue from which said "problem" distracts.

We only have one Problem at the root of it all. That problem is, that we are endorsing the absence of awareness of our Unlimited Self. And the more we endorse or give energy to something, the more of that thing we get. Conversely if you desire the polar opposite of a bad situation, that too will manifest. Basic energetic dynamics.

But we most certainly are not in need of being fixed. We are already standing blindingly close to that perfect self – our Unlimited Self.

Most humans stand a bit outside to far outside awareness of this template of their Unlimited Self, unlike animals who live so much more honestly than we. You look at a dog or a cat and it fully embodies the joy of being fully Present, fully alive.

A cat is guaranteed never to give thought to its grocery list: "three mice, one pitcher of cream, four scoops kibble, two bags litter – check, check, check and check. Now…where on earth do you suppose they keep the herring?" A dog or cat will never go so fully out of consciousness as this – and as humans do on a consistent basis. I advise my students to study animals for pointers on their spiritual growth. They’re much wiser than we in such matters.

So in short, in creating ETHOS, we are predicating an energy transformation method on the premise that self is already perfect and not in need of help or fixing. This predicate and our main goal to re-embody and live life through our Unlimited Self, has been of phenomenal use in increasing effectiveness and reducing recidivism in clients who may in time come to take back their problems – a common difficulty in all therapies (energy therapies included).

And yes, this is an intention, but also a realization, and active participation in reality as each of us chooses to fashion it.

More on this shortly. And if you’d like to be kept aware of the news, changes or want to be involved, check out our very new (and still being populated – be an early adopter!) ETHOS website: http://ethosmethod.com

could it really be that simple?

amazing times & inspiring videos

Here’s a nice visual Bliss Break for you. Just watch the rainbow incense smoke flow past your eyes and take a little one minute break to fully relax your entire bodymind. This reminds me of how inspiration flows, in many different hues, bends, nooks and crannies of the universe. If you study quantum physics, this is very like the flow of protons on Feynman paths.

Inspiration is flowing from so many sources that I want to share, yet have had little time to write about. I’m finding wonderful online resources just falling into my lap though. Here’s one that will point the way from the Institute of Noetic Sciences.

IONS is a place you really want to check out: http://www.noetic.org and is one of my primary professional associations. I highly recommend it to those who are attracted to my writings and personal transformation in general. IONS sponsors a series of videos at  http://oneminuteshift.com entitled: "Snapshots of Awakening" that the below is an example of.  Very satisfying and brief Bliss Niblets.

Here, the spiritual teacher Adyashanti speaks about Awakening.

And nope, you really *don’t* need to have all your stuff together to be Awakened.

It can happen any time, any day, any minute, any second. Now, if you prefer.
