Meditation On Fern River

Sunday, October 15th, 2006 by Maryam Webster

It is morning in the Santa Cruz hills and I am sitting by the Fern river, meditating in the mist by the water’s edge. I am joined by a tiny, striped black and yellow orbweaver spider, who, minding her own business, crept onto my boulder seat and meditated beside me peaceably for an hour.  Her kind are fittingly called "writing spiders" because of the white zigzags in their beautiful webs. Beautiful creature, beautiful place. I hope the lovely rushing of the water comes through to you as beautifully as it is caressing my mind today…Namasté

Blogging from Santa Cruz’s Twin Lakes Beach

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005 by Maryam Webster

Blogging from Santa Cruz’s Twin Lakes Beach after guest lecturing on EFT at Five Branches Acupuncture College. Way cool crowd, sharp as tacks. Wish I could have stayed longer, but needed my beach fix. It’s cool &overcast at the beach as it often is. A frisky brown seal poked his fine head out of the surf and whistled at me beseechingly. (Oh precious, I thought, if only I could!) He slides slowly beneath the waves, blinking huge, liquid ebony eyes sadly. Small children skate on boogie boards in the spume, floating, falling, laughing, running…

I find one of those rubber band bracelets the kids all wear now, gold in color and bearing the legend "Safety". A perfect interlace of bladderwrack is washed up at my feet like the sea god’s tribute necklace. A frond of sand and salt-encrusted wrack lies in the sand, topped by an errant tan gull feather. I add this to my  bag and move on.

I left the beach reluctantly but with many gifts, wishing for a selkie’s skin. Stay tuned 4 the class audio…need to actually be at a computer for that! Enjoy the waves in your own day…

Revenge of Women In The Burkha

Burkhausflag

Barry Spector’s eloquently provocative article on the veiled and subjugated nature of women in burkhas and their mythic psychological effects on the western male (and female) is a must-read at one of my favorite blogs, The Headline Muse. Excerpted from Chapter Four ("The Return of the Repressed") of his forthcoming book: Madness At The Gates Of The City: Dionysus And America in the 21st Century, the article delves into the deep mythology surrounding male and female roles, with specificity to the Western male’s traditional view of "oriental" culture. Whether you agree or not, teachings which connect us to the mythic brought to life in the present are always worth a read.

The BlogFather & Multiple Streams of Coaching Income Conference

Friday, February 4th, 2005 by Maryam Webster

Andy Wibbels, Da BlogFather and I at the MSOCI conference. What a truly wild ride! Moblogged from the hotel lobby…ain’t technology a kick? This is about as blurry as I feel after only a few hours sleep last night. And Andy is a darling, handsome man though he looks a bit manic panic here…oh wait, that’s just me. Fifty copies of the QFB Demo CD flew off the product table in a matter of a few hours, people are excited about the Certified Energy Coach Program FREE Startup Kit, and I’m meeting awesome friends new and old.

This is the whole reason to go to conferences folks. I’ve talked with Andy maybe several dozen times on teleclasses and just chatting but never met him until now. Amazing man and such a sweetie in person! And darling Tsahai from my year as an NLP student showed up to our mutual delight - we’ve decided we must work together on a project given our complementary talents. Such fun! And such dynamic connections that we can renew over and over again at such events. If you’re contemplating whether or not to go to a conference, my vote is "go if the subject is delicious" as there will be so many side benefits.  I wouldn’t miss ‘em for the world!

As for the Multiple Streams material itself, the presenters were all amazing and I generated several more ideas for leveraging content I already have. Minimal work involved and packaging is everything. If you don’t have the book and you’re a solopreneur, you really need to get it. Available here

Being Apprised of Your Deficits

Thursday, October 7th, 2004 by Maryam Webster

I have been having coffee with Thedy and discussing the work of Caroline Myss. Thedy was lucky enough to obtain an apprenticeship with Caroline and his energized talk of it has catalyzed movement at home as we’ve packed videos for our impending house sale. I pulled out Caroline’s Energetics of Healing videos and have been watching them. Very enlightening. This is something I suggest you watch at one year intervals to see how much further up the chakra chain you’ve come. They scare some people. I have friends who absolutely won’t watch them - Caroline definitely nails you to the wall and kicks your butt to Boise and back. But she speaks a Truth and that is very attractive. After listening to her wax lyric about the upper three chakras, I began thinking about why those friends of mine won’t view these videos with me who will view everything from comedy to horror on other days of the week. Why was I initially unable to finish watching when I first got the videos. Because she was kicking my butt hard and having other things to worry about at the time, I didn’t want the extra reminders of my deficits. But it was exactly the thing I needed which is why I returned, at several year intervals to this set of teachings and have been pleased to see that I am actually progressing in life.

Being made aware of one’s deficits is an attack on the very existence of that organizing force which drives most us - the ego. When we choose to rage and suffer from the gift of increased awareness of our deficits, we are really choosing to live small. Everything in life sometimes, conspires to remind us of how we aren’t perfect and how much we have to improve. If we let this information crush us and make us resentful, we are narrowing our ability to grow and change into the awesome person you really want to be. If we do not put parameters on how much change and improvement we can take, we will continue to grow and such reminders of imperfection will not be a bother to us - they will merely be a thing to be grateful for like the pop-up alarms in our calendering software. When you get one of these coming into your sphere, in the form of a friend, fellow worker or family member “kicking your butt” about something you know deep down in your heart of hearts is something you need to improve on, consider it an opportunity to add another few feathers to your wings.

If you keep doing this, you will feel lighter and lighter as you make the changes that free who you really are. And one day, you will remember what it is like to fly. And then, you will
