“Real Bravery” and Getting There With EFT

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006 by Maryam Webster

Pemachodron Pema Chodron, at right, is one of the foremost women Buddhist teachers today. I learned a tremendous amount about how my attachment to impermanent things was getting in the way of my feeling safe in the world in Chodron’s remarkable book: The Places That Scare You (here: http://snipurl.com/m31w). A wonderful quote that hits home:

"The essence of bravery is being without self-deception"

It not only takes guts when we cease playing those oh-so-familiar games of illusion with ourselves and others, but  a willingness for the opinions of others not to matter. That may seem hard to achieve in an era of Botox, plastic surgery, identity theft, fantasy role playing games and a culture where even toddlers seem to have spin doctors.

But the bravery Chodron speaks of is not only superficial, but deep within. When will we stop kidding ourselves that we are very, very deeply afraid of certain things? (poverty, death and incapacity are the most popular fears in American culture) When will we be able to stop feeling deeply unsafe or inadequate?

When you can look those personal fears or inadequacies in the eye and be at peace with having them in your life, whether they ever leave you or not, that is bravery. Seeing yourself warts and all and truly feeling okay with yourself as a work in progress, that is bravery. Continued persistance in working on what might be many, many personal issues over time - that is serious bravery.

Take what I do for a living - teaching people how to change themselves with energy therapies. While energy therapies have a reputation for powerful, fast work, sometimes we don’t always have the "one minute miracles" others do in working on ourselves. Sometimes it takes a tremendous amount of time to get to the core issues of your particular problem, particularly when first learning how to work on yourself.

Lindsay_1 Often this is due to a lack of proper information on how to properly use a particular therapy. My friend and one of the infamous Three Mavens, Lindsay Kenny (click her pic at left to go to her website), has written a wonderful series of articles at the Original EFT website on how to make Emotional Freedom Techniques work uniquely well in private home practice. Please go and read this insightful and informative series here, to make sure you’re getting all you can from EFT. Lindsay is an ace EFT therapist and expert in making sure her clients never leave a session without knowing the correct way to practice the technique. The information on psychological reversal alone is worth a mint. You might want to print it out to have handy for the next time you go into a private healing session with yourself.

JUST DRINK IT One of the things Lindsay goes over that I too am rabid in preaching, is to Drink lots of Water throughout your day - particularly when you do energy therapies. The nerves and tissues of the human body are like a battery in that they run on a weak electromagnetic current, in a solution of natural biochemicals. Most of us in the West are chronically dehydrated (from choosing coffee, teas and sodas over pure water), which concentrates this solution. Such dehydration precipitates many of the neurotransmitter chemicals (which carry the messages from one nerve to the other) out of solution to create a cellular sludge, leaving us with far less of the fundamental "juice" to run our body’s battery.

Imagine trying to get an email from one computer to another through the sludge lying on the bottom of a sewage canal - that’s exactly what your body is like when it doesn’t have enough water in it! Now you might be saying "Sewage?! Eee-yuck! Not in my body!"  Oh yes indeed. Each day you’re dehydrated, the heavy sludge of biochemicals gets thicker, adding on dead bits of tissue from daily cellular sloughing and toxic waste from the catabolic processes your body naturally engages in. With all that just hanging around turning to library paste due to the tissues being a bit dry, it really IS like the bottom of a sewage canal! Imagine having to try and communicate through that?

With enough water on board though, these sludgy tissues rehydrate and toxic byproducts are whisked away so that nerves can conduct their messages swiftly and well. If you are trying to get "in the Flow", there is no better medicine than pure, simple water. The "Eight, 8oz. glasses a day" is just a starting point by the way - keep drinking.

And remember:

"Even though it seems like it’s taking me FOREVER to get rid of this (fill in the blank with your Problem) I DEEPLY and COMPLETELY Accept Myself…and I Choose to Continue being BRAVE and PERSISTENT, every day!"

Two Cures That Baffled American Doctors

Saturday, January 7th, 2006 by Maryam Webster

Did you know that food allergies are being permanently eliminated with a natural, energy-based treatment that takes minutes to administer. Also, emotionally crippling phobias are being cured in one simple and painless session. Both treatments have a documented success rate of about 80% and scientific research to support their effectiveness. Have mainstream American doctors commented on these astounding results? Perhaps they’ll comment when they are done anxiously scratching their heads! American physicians are perplexed by these treatments because Western medicine focuses on the chemical nature of the human body. Conversely, Eastern health practitioners (from East and Southeast Asia) have focused on energy meridians for thousands of years.

They understand there is a vital energy system in the body that is separate from the cardiovascular and nervous system. This ancient theory views illness, allergies, and even negative emotions as blockages along the body’s vital energy meridians…
