UPDATE: DANAYA BROWN’S LAST DAY

Friday, August 29th, 2003 by Maryam Webster

My friend Danaya Brown lost her fight with leukemia this afternoon at 12:20pm Pacific time. Her husband Mark said if it would help even one person to know of her story that I should continue putting it out there. There have been so many amazing lessons here, I certainly have learned a great deal and have met many fine people who have volunteered to help, so here goes, once again. Mark called me at 6:30 this morning saying Danaya’s pulse was 180 and had been holding for the last few hours. I don’t know how a person can live through several hours of a pulse that high. He said the docs predict she will die today. With one of her last sentances during the mid-morning, she said that she wanted her friend and the monks from Wat Buddanusorn to be present at her side, then lapsed into semi-consciousness. My heart felt very, very heavy as we hung up the phone. I continued to send Reiki, love and prayer to them both. The funeral is already being planned at the Wat. Mark is mentally packing his bags for Thailand where he will take Danaya’s ashes and dedicate himself as a Buddhist monk for some period of time as he mourns.

Update on Danaya Brown

Thursday, August 28th, 2003 by Maryam Webster

My Reiki teacher Adonea has been here for the past week and we have gone daily to the hospital to give Reiki and to pray with Danaya, who has ALL leukemia, and her husband Mark. Danaya feels better when she receives Reiki directly but lapses frequently into fevers and raised blood counts. We send distance Reiki while away from the hospital, but there’s only so much good it can do now. We have mainly concentrated on giving her as much comfort as possible. Following are some notes that bring Danaya’s case up to date for those following it:

Healing for My Friend Danaya

Wednesday, August 20th, 2003 by Maryam Webster

Danaya has been told that she has very little time to live, or at least that’s what I think she said. I called and Danaya picked up, but was coughing so with pneumonia I could barely understand her. I did understand here when she said: “I don’t want to die. What do I do?” I don’t know what she should do, how can anyone who is healthy give advice? I tell her to know that love, support and hundreds of prayers from around the world are with her. I don’t know what the Thai word for that of transit for the soul from one world to the next. I am not a Theravadin Buddhist clergyperson, which is what she needs right now. The amazing monk Maha Prasert, from Wat Buddhanusorn, visited yesterday bringing a healing bracelet and an hour of chanted sutras. Maha Prasert is a true treasure, everyone loves him and he does perk Danaya’s spirits up. So many people are sending healing and are praying for Danaya and Mark now, so many good folk have stepped forward to help. Danaya and Mark send thanks to you all. We all exist now in a sea of prayer and positive intention. As we speak about those who are sending energy to her, Danaya speaks, and I am awed again.

Danaya’s Story

Please click here to HELP MY FRIEND DANAYA BROWN

Here’s the webpage I put up for my dear friend Danaya who is battling ALL leukemia in her twelfth hour. Please click on it and send prayers, magic, good vibes or whatever your heart tells you to. The current round of chemo is failing and there is nothing left to try. Danaya has pneumonia, is coughing nonstop and in pain. She might have a cracked or broken rib from the violent coughing, or damaged her lung tissue. Her face crumples in pain as each paroxysm shakes her body. The photos on the webpage are much different from the Danaya of this last few weeks - she is very, very ill, losing the battle and this is the fifth time this year that the leukemia has come back after short remissions. Danaya’s doctors give her very little time to live.

My Reiki teacher who is flying in from Sedona to spend a week working on Danaya, makes the point that she doesn’t like predictions such as this because they sometimes limit a patient’s abilities to heal themselves if such is possible. I’m with her, and know that miracles can happen. By the same token, we have all gotten very realistic about what’s happening and are preparing for all possible eventualities. It is a very sad, very beautiful, very liminal time for us all.
